Rain delays prep, early planted rice less likely

The seemingly nonstop rain and the rising Mississippi River and Lake Chicot bring back memories of 2016. Though it’s forecast to stay well below 2016 levels, the lake is filling up and once again starting to go over the docks around its banks. The river is on a fairly steady increase too. It was at 50.4 feet Feb. 22 and is scheduled to crest at 56.5 feet March 12. Minor flood stage is at 48 feet. At 52 feet it becomes moderate. The expected March 22 crest of the river is one foot below the major level.
