Mario Milton, 27, and Alicia King, 24, both of Dermott, were arrested Saturday in connection with Friday’s shooting death of Johnny Hayes.
Hayes, 49, was shot and killed outside 925 Skipper Bridge Road in Dermott; his mother, 64-year-old Carolyn Hayes, was wounded in the incident.
Dermott police reportedly received a phone call about the shooting around 12:22 a.m., just 45 minutes after a local officer was sent to the same address to quell a disturbance. The earlier incident was born from an argument involving Johnny Hayes and another person, according to Arkansas State Police.
When officers arrived at the residence that second time, Carolyn Hayes was seen walking in the front yard though she was wounded. Johnny Hayes was unresponsive in the yard and was later declared dead at an area hospital.
ASP Criminal Investigation Division and Dermott Police Department, aided also by Chicot and Drew county sheriff’s departments, arrested Milton and King the next day.
Milton was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree battery while King was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.
Both were jailed in Chicot County and scheduled for a first appearance hearing.
Johnny Hayes’s body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where the manner and cause of his death will be determined.
