Members of the Lakeside Beavers’ boys’ tennis team returned to the state tennis tournament for the third time in three years. Daniel Palomares and Allan Mondragon are this year’s 3-8A District Runner-Up. This is Palomares’s second year in a row on the District Runner-Up Boys Double Team.
The District Tournament was played at the Bloom Tennis Center in Pine Bluff. The team advanced at the District Tournament by beating one of the McGehee Teams (6-0, 6-1).
In the next round they defeated a Drew Central Team (6-1, 6-1). For the finals, they played the top-ranked team in the district, another McGehee duo, but lost (6-2, 6-2).
On Monday these doubles players traveled to the Conway Tennis Center in Conway.
They played a team from Atkins in the first round. The Beavers won the first set (6-3) but lost the next one (3-6), requiring a third set to break the tie sets.
The third set ended with their defeat (4-6). The pair was said to have played very well and had a good time competing. The group that traveled to the state tournament included Palomares, Mondragon, photographer Elvis Mondragon, assistant coach Maggie Hess, and coach Terry Johnson.
The members of the 2018 tennis teams where seniors, Eleesia Brown, Rubi Garcia, Kylie Carpenter, ReDacia Boyd, Catlyn Hatcher, Allan Mondragon, Daniel Palomares, and Sha’Morris Johnson; juniors, Erin DeAngelo, Erin Muy, and Shaniya Taylor; sophomores, Chloe Rutan, Elvis Vargas, Larry Mondragon, and Trevor Osborne; and freshmen, Trinity Carlock and Yazmin Mondragon.
