Members of the Chicot County 4-H Club participated in the bi-annual Arkansas 4-H Day held at the Arkansas State Capitol on Feb. 28.
Every other February—on the odd years—4-H members, agents, leaders, and volunteers come together and visit the Arkansas State Capitol building in Little Rock to learn about the processes of their government, meet their legislators, and show their support for the program.
Chicot County Extension Agent Christa Mazzanti attended, along with Paddling Beavers 4-H Club members Benjamin Allbritton, Joshua Allbritton, and Nathan Brown.
Mazzanti said that Brown and the Allbrittons “enjoyed themselves” and were “excited to tour the Capitol and meet state legislators.”
Mazzanti said the group was also able to tour some monuments and meet other members from across the state.
“We are so happy they could come and represent Chicot County,” said Mazzanti.
The group even took a turn stepping inside the treasurer’s vault where they were allowed to put their hands on $600,000 in cash.
Members of 4-H Clubs from 52 of the 75 counties across the state were able to attend 4-H Day, and observe sessions in the House, the Senate, and the Arkansas Supreme Court.
Extension agents, leaders, volunteers and 4-H Club members in attendance at the event totaled nearly 500.
The Arkansas House and Senate read resolutions recognizing the positive impact of the 4-H program and proclaiming Feb. 28 to be 4-H Day throughout the state.
This year’s 4-H Day at the Capitol was long overdue. The last time 4-H Day was held at the Capitol was four years prior, in 2019. The members of the organization were not able to come together in 2021 due to Covid-19 precautions.
The next 4-H Day is set to take place Feb. 28, 2025.
