Improvements to State Highway 160 between Chicot Junction and Portland require temporary lane closures and detours, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Crews will remove and replace the old bridge that is approximately 4.6 miles west of U.S. Highway 65 (Chicot Junction) and 18 miles east of State Highway 165 (Portland). The work is expected to continue through Tuesday, Oct. 1, although adjustments may need to be made if weather impacts the schedule.

During phase one of the plan, traffic will be reduced to a single lane, controlled by a portable signal.

Phase two will see the road closed to all traffic. Traffic from the south will be detoured onto State Highway 8 (Parkdale). Traffic from the north will be detoured onto State Highway 82 (Eudora).

During phase three, traffic will again be reduced to a single lane, controlled by a portable signal.

DOT officials said traffic will be controlled by signage, electronic signal, and traffic barrels. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov.
